The Lone Wolf, where did he go?

It has come to my attention that there has been a serious misprint.  Not Zac's infamous Dances With Wolves originally contained "3" wolves in the stencil.  The source that chooses to remain anonymous, revealed that when her teenager did the stencil it contained 3 wolves.  I am sorry to have to bring this news to you.
Not Zac was asked to comment on this turn of events.  There was a bit of back peddling and blame on a stencil mishap.  Still clinging to his master carving ability.

The best pumpkin ever will always carry the stigma of deceit.  Can you still be the self proclaimed "King of Carving", when you have lost one of your pack?

Halloween tip of the day:  always buy candy you don't like, so you are not tempted to eat the leftovers.

It's The "Great Pumpkin"

Two weeks ago we were invited to a pumpkin carving party.  This seemed simple enough, the kids can hang out, eat candy, and carve a pumpkin. 

We didn't have to spend an entire Saturday searching through some god forsaken pumpkin patch.  We did that once, spent a fortune on a pumpkin and it died the next day.  Organic shmanic, it needs to survive to the big day.  

The kids were soo excited, I'm happy its only 3 blocks away.  Any event that involves the car is never fun, us city folk have a bit of a motion sickness issue that has plagued us since forever.
It's time to get down to brass tax.  The kids are getting antsy, they want to carve their pumpkins.  Finally, the carving begins.  Within 2 minutes the only child up to the task is a nine year old girl.  The rest are all adults.  Not Zac has the ability to make anything into a competitive event.  He takes great pride in the fact that he can outrun Thing 1, our 8 year old. 

While using a stencil, I might ad, Not Zac carves his version of Dances With Wolves.  He declares, "my pumpkin is awesome, have you ever seen a better pumpkin?"  Mind you there was a 9 year old in the home style carving competition, with no shame he said his was the best.

A couple of days later I see a Dad on his way to school to carve a pumpkin in Thing 1's class.  How great that this Dad took time out of the work day to carve a pumpkin in his kid's class.  I tell Not Zac, he turns to Thing 1 and states "my pumpkin was better than his, right!" 

I can't believe you are competing with a pumpkin you haven't seen.  I don't see you going into the kids class and carving a pumpkin.  Not Zac's reply is, "I don't have to, I carved the best pumpkin".  Once again the big picture is lost on Not Zac.

Dances With Wolves is now a distant memory.  It lives only on Not Zac's iPhone, ready at the touch of a button to be emailed to all.

What's in Sarah's Closet?

The new Palin topic is her new closet full, and I mean full.  In the past candidates have been scrutinized for their passion for fashion, remember John Edwards $400 haircut.  Here is a woman, less than 2 months ago was sitting in Alaska.  Well folks, Alaska is a little cold and definitely not know as the fashion capital.  You take this Alaska country bumpkin and make her tour the country a billion times. Is she supposed to be hunting down same day dry cleaners in God knows where Idaho?  I assume that is not her specialty.  If any of the male candidates wore the same suit every day you would never know.  Women's clothes are much more distinct and high maintenance.  If she toured the country in her second hand clothes, in the Big City we call that vintage, the comments would be flying. 

Is this a sexist attack, absolutely!  Now she is saying she is giving it back, give the girl a fashion break.  She even went so far as to point out that she was wearing her own jacket.  Last I checked there wasn't a Barney's in Alaska, what's a girl to do.

It's like getting married.  The groom can buy a tux that he can wear until he gets fat, he can even rent his tux for $200.   A woman spends upwards of $5,000 on a dress, veil, perfect matching shoes, hair, make up, undergarments, etc.  Why should this woman running for Vice-President be chastised for what women do on a daily basis.  If she looked like a schlub everyone would  criticize.  Do you honestly think Hilary is buying her pantsuits off the rack, I don't think so.  Sarah Palin is being condemned for looking good, oh the travesty.  She brought the open toe shoe to middle America, that alone is an accomplishment.

We criticize woman in power for being too stylish and make fun when they're too schlepy.  We can't have it both ways. I say: " let the fashion continue!"  The last thing I want to see is Sarah Palin wearing my Bat-Mitzvah dress at the next Republican event.

The Weekend in Review, Oh Boy!

Saturday was supposed to be the big debut of the gas mask, gun carrying costume.  Well I spent about a thousand hours trying to find the accoutrement to create the SPECIAL OPS costume.  What I ended up with was a black down vest with letter stickers on the back. I wouldn't want to forget the badge and the handcuffs from my "sexy cop lady" costume I wore to Thing 1's first birthday.   Now Thing 1 is SPEC AL OPS, we lost the "I".  Oh, don't let me forget the giant laser gun I bought, yeah MOM!
Guess what folks, it rained on Saturday and the school picnic was canceled.  

Sunday we went to Halloween in Westchester, Thing 2 puts on her costume from last year.  That was soo not happening.  Honestly, I couldn't remember one from the other but there was a bit of a deja vu thing.  Thing 2 finally changed into her new costume.  Did I mention that it was 50 degrees out and she wouldn't where tights.  Pick and choose your battles, I hear in my head.  Westchester went great, I didn't have to get up, police, or locate the children.   THANK GOD!  Now I can get down to business, there is nothing more fun than trying to figure out who had what plastic surgery.

No trip out of the city is complete without a stop at the nearest Target.  The first thing we do is get popcorn, one for each Thing.  Not Zac always buys multiple body soaps, is a topic for another day.  We acquire snow boots for Thing 1, snow pants for Thing 2, and athletic clothes.  I need to check out all of the special designers for Target.  I usually find this part of the program disappointing yet exhilarating all the same.  I have gotten my fair share of fabulous designer for target goods.

In spite of the fact that first thing this morning I receive a phone call from Red, she is at Target, and wants to know if I would like her to pick up an Anya Hindmarch bag.  The answer is, of course.   Red had picked a bag for me that I can't get on line, it is sold out. I still need to check out the collection for myself, my favorite is the shoulder bag, it is soo cute.  Keep in mind that for $29.95 you are not getting fine leather, just take it for what it is, fun.

Did I mention that now I have to figure out how to make an "I" out of masking tape?  Good luck to all, may the force be with you.

High School Musical 3, The Big Day

The day finally came.  I have finagled and juggled and bought tickets online.  I take Thing 2 across town since the theater across the street was sold old.  No biggie.  We loved it!  Thing 2 was barely conscious, it was a long day.  I'm sure I will be seeing it again.

 In yesterday's New York Post, there was a review of High School Musical 3 by Kyle Smith.  From what I can put together he has a 6 month old.  Now this  man reviewed a movie as if he was going to see Gone With The Wind.  What Kyle doesn't understand is that he is only 6 months in to the kid thing.  He probably still thinks its fun to watch cookie monster.  I used to love the "C" monster myself, after a few years you yearn to watch things that aren't furry or computer animated animals that save the world.  Watching full sized people sing and dance is a breath of fresh air.  Kyle is still in the Honeymoon phase of babyhood.  I have sat through, Clifford, Piglet, Shrek 1,2 and 3, Stuart Little 1 and 2, Tarzan, Bee movie, Racing Stripes, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Underdog, Over the Hedge, Flushed Away, Nemo, Meet the Robinson's, Monsters inc., Shark Tale, Star Wars attack of the Clones, Walle, Kung Fu Panda, and countless others.  Some have been good and some have been unbelievably bad. 

High School Musical is good clean fun.  You don't have to change the channel or cover your kids eyes.  Kyle said that everyone was disappointed, not the theater I was in.  The theater was packed with tweens and teens, at the 7:00 show.  The crowd loved it.  There were a few please don't break into song again moments, otherwise the crowd screamed, clapped and cheered. 

The cast is all grown up now, the baby fat is all gone.  Zac is beyond yummaliscious.  Vanessa is still her sugary sweet self.  I always love Ashley, I wish she had a little more screen time.

I don't know what Kyle expected.  I hope that when he sits down with his little girl all grown up and watches the DVD, he'll realize how wrong he was.  

There was one teenage boy with his mother and his sister, at the movie before us.  He was bitching and moaning very loudly how horrible it was.  I think he doth protest to much.  You know that he secretly loved it and just didn't want to seem like a big loser.  Either way he did.    

I wonder if the DVD will be out for the holidays?  Go enjoy!

High School Musical 3, only 2 days to go!

After all of the excitement I can't believe the catastrophe that is on the horizon.  There is a good chance that I will not be able to see it opening day.  It is so wrong on so many different levels.  Between after school and a birthday party I can't  seem to figure it out.  I can't even go on Saturday or Sunday.  By Monday I will be the only one left that hasn't seen it.  I do love those kids, but their social life is getting in the way of my obsession.

CHANEL, Mobile Art

Today was one of those days that reassures me why I live in New York.  I am on my walk with my friend Red (Red is short for, Red lady in a Blue dress), we are on our regular path when we see the signs for the Chanel Mobile Art exhibit.  It's the talk of the town, let's walk by and check it out.  We are coming up the bottom loop when we see this strange spaceship like thing, this is it.  Now we have to find the box office, we can't.  We approach the fabulous looking men at the ropes to inquire about the exhibit.  I would like to mention that all of the people working outside were wearing this fantastic ballistic nylon looking mid thigh jackets.  Apparently the only way to acquire such a jacket is to work the event and everyone was hired over a month ago.  Did I mention that they were a very nice looking staff.
After getting completely confused, you can't' get tickets because the exhibit is sold out but you can get extended hour tickets if you show up a half hour before the box office opens, but there are no tickets.  We decide to take our chance and wait is the stand by line.
Remember that I said we were on our walk, we were also wearing our work out clothes, accessorized with fanny packs.  Not my outfit of choice for an art exhibit.  We were one step up from the Mom in the denim shirt with the Disney characters embroidered on it.  I look around and every other person has a touch of Chanel on.  The two men behind us with heavily waxed eyebrows are both wearing big giant Chanel pins on there puffy vests (nice touch), and one is carrying a Chanel shoulder bag, while wearing Chanel glasses (doesn't he know that's just licensing).  There is that little double c spread through out the crowd.  Here we are in our workout clothes and fanny packs.

We have our tickets, we are going in, yippee.  As we enter Red asks if there is a gift shop.  NO!  How can a Chanel exhibit not have a gift shop, I want a t-shirt.

While we were on line Red has to use the facilities.  Not usually note worthy but this is the Chanel exhibit.  I ask, "so how was the bathroom?"  Red; "a fancy mobile trailer, they did have personalized hand towels."  You do understand that after the exhibit I had to acquire some of those towels.  They should have had a gift shop. 

We are inside, the entire exhibit you wear a headset and a french woman talks to you as if Coco herself is narrating.  The premise behind the show is empty your bag, bare your soul.  Ok, I'll bite.  More often than not I enter these exhibits trying my hardest to figure out what any of it means. This time was no different.  There are always a few I get and a few I don't.  The highlights was the giant Chanel bag with hot pink fur lining.  It isn't so appropriate for children.  There is a bit of sexuality that may be tough to explain.  Then again I took my children to see Hair.  Nothing like a 5 year old screaming and pointing, "look Mommy, they don't have on any clothes".  I'm just filling up my parent handbook. 

High School Musical 3, Go Cougars!

Zac appeared on the Jay Leno show.  Leno asked; "were there a lot of crazed fans in Spain?' 
Zac replied; "we don't call them crazed fans, we call them MOMs". 

I knew there were others out there.

FYI,  Zac turned 21 on Saturday.  I can now breath a sigh of relief, it would be awkward to drink alone.

Fun Fact:  according to the Daily Telegraph in the Uk.  Zac has signed on for Pirates of the Caribbean 4.

How many pairs of jeans do you have?

Someone asked the question of, how many pairs of jeans do you own?  This question does not have a simple uncomplicated answer.  Do you want to know the number in the closet?  The number of jeans currently in the rotation?   The jeans I keep for hanging around?  The jeans that don't look great, but were too expensive to get rid of.  The jeans that are teetering on being an out bot.  The skinny jean, that fits in the boot.  The skinny jean that doesn't fit my tush.  The jeans that you can't wash for fear that you will never get them back on again.  The jeans you can only wear with platform shoes.  The jeans you can't sit down in because your whale tail sticks out.  The jeans that are the smallest size you ever fit into, once upon a time.  The jeans that give you muffin top.  The jeans that someone told you made your butt look good.
It's not how many you have, it's how many you need.  The jeans in my closet are on a rotating basis.  There may be 20 pairs, in reality I probably wear 5.  Its not the same 5, its the current 5.

High School Musical 3, The Countdown

The day we have been waiting for is soon approaching.  I remember seeing the preview in the theater before seeing Kung Fu Panda, it seemed so far away.  I have already pre-ordered the soundtrack.  Now the question is, do I go on opening day?  Thing 2 has tennis and Thing 1 has a birthday party.  This is quite the conundrum. 
It is going to be crazy out there, can I handle it.  I have waited on line at the crack of dawn for a wii, I waited on line in a mall on a holiday weekend for an iPhone.  At least this is something I want, and Thing 2 of course.  This is a mother daughter bonding experience, not the acquisition of the latest techno fad.

According to the Sun, Zac is considering Daniel Radcliff's role in Equus.  If I recall correctly, isn't he naked in it.  I doubt it would happen, but oh boy, that would be worth the ticket price, handling fee and surcharges.
